The practical measures included within the Rural Development Programme for Mainland Finland are grouped under the programme’s four main axes:
- Improving the competitiveness of the agricultural and forestry sector, including: support for young farmers starting work; training for producers working in agriculture and forestry; support for agricultural investments; support for developments in the foodstuffs, wood and bioenergy sectors.
- Improving the environment and the countryside, including: the provision of Less Favourable Area (LFA) subsidies and agri-environmental subsidies; measures to promote animal welfare; support for financially unproductive investments.
- The quality of life in rural areas and diversification of the rural economy, including: the diversification and development of non-agricultural livelihoods in farms and other rural-micro-enterprises; development of rural tourism; development of rural services and villages.
- Leader activities: support for Leader Local Action Groups’ work on issues related to axes 1–3; support for collaboration between regions, including international projects.
